Our Boats

The Optimist, also known as the ‘opti’, is a small, single-handed sailing dinghy intended for use by children up to the age of 15. Contemporary boats are usually made of fibreglass,

although wooden boats are still built.

We have 5 of these on offer for our young sailors.

Open Skiffs

The O'pen Bic, often simply referred to as the Open Bic /Open Skiff, is a single handed sailboat designed for younger sailors.

The ideal weight for a user of this boat is 30 kg (66 lb)–65 kg (143 lb), but it can accommodate up to 90 kg (200 lb) making it suitable for children from 8 years to young teens, skill dependent.

We have 3 of these available at the club.

The Starling Class yacht is a one-man centreboard yacht that has been used to train most of New Zealand’s teenage yachtsmen over a period of three decades. Suitable for teenagers & adults.

The Starling fits nicely between the Optimist and Laser classes as the preferred intermediate boat in New Zealand.

We have one of these available at the club.
