Marsden Yacht Club was founded in 1974. It originally sailed at Marsden Point. The club grew, and Whangarei District Council land was secured by lease and the Clubrooms at One Tree Point were opened in 1992. The clubrooms were predominantly built with voluntary labour provided by Club members. The change to the current name came in 1994, to give power boat owners in the area a club focus.
The Marsden Yacht and Boat Club is affiliated to both the Northland Yachting Association and Yachting New Zealand.
